How to Choose Pool Deck and Patio Materials

The hardscape small area around your swimming pool area is called a surround, deck, or decking, although it isn't always manufactured from wood or composite, like traditional outdoor decks that we quite often associate the word what. Traditionally, most in-ground pool decks are made from concrete. Other materials, like pavers and brick, will also be popular choices.

Pool decks and paved surfaces within the yard like paths, patios, or steps are functional landscaping elements, adding space inside, making a smooth transition from area to an alternative, providing drainage, and within the bare dirt.

When it really is near or surrounds a pool or spa, decking results in a frame while providing a safe and secure path around its edge. If backyard space allows, those times can be enlarged to support poolside furniture take it easy or dining.

Things to Consider When Choosing Materials

Choosing deck material mustn't be just a matter of using what you think is easily the most attractive. Important things to take into consideration: -The material need to be safe but not become slippery when wet.
- Make sure the decking material isn't coarse, bumpy, or uneven.
- Choose a heat-reflective material to maintain the surface cooler on hot days consider bare feet!
- Select a cloth that blends well with paved or hardscaped areas as part of your yard.
- If possible, see whether the material is immune to algae, chemicals, acid, mildew and mold, and frost.
- A modern solution: to get a seamless look, accomplish the coping material on the surrounding patio or deck.
-Safety fences and barriers should be thought about and included in the pool and deck design. Check city or local laws or guidelines regarding pool barriers most ought to be at least 4 feet high and stay positioned between your pool and parts of access.

Take some of the variety of pool deck materials, and their pros and cons.

Concrete

Concrete produces a smooth surround that can be found in a number of colors in addition to the familiar light grey. Certain types of architecture, like Mid-century modern and contemporary, involve the clean, uncomplicated lines and also surface of concrete. Pool decking or possibly a surround manufactured from concrete must be poured with a professional unless you are an authority do-it-yourselfer or have a great deal of help from capable assistants.

Pros -It's very easy to maintain and comfortable to wear underfoot.
-Doesn't get too warm if the temperatures rise.

Cons -If it does not have a textured finish or perhaps brushed, concrete becomes slippery when wet. Aggregate (small pebbles or rocks) may be added to concrete for the slip-resistant surface

Brick

Brick has existed for more than 5,000 years, so it will be a proven material and surface for just a pool deck.

Pros -Durable and all to easy to maintain.
-Available in colors aside from terra cotta like grey, as an example.

Cons -Moss will grow on cool bricks, so you have to regularly maintain it. If not, mossy bricks can be slippery when wet, which enables it to potentially develop a dangerous falling zone.

Pavers

Pavers certainly are a popular style of hardscape for paths and patios and are avalable in many different materials, sizes, shapes, and colors. Paver materials for poolside patios include stone, concrete and aggregate.

The well-liked interlocking concrete pavers undoubtedly are a good solution to plain concrete and so are designed to resemble cobblestones, granite, tile, or traditional bricks. Keep in mind when utilizing interlocking pavers for pool decking that patterns formed from many small units can be shown busy. Step back and appraise the entire space, in addition to colors, textures, and patterns, before selecting.

Pros -A good, budget-conscious choice.
- Easy to find and an easy task to replace if the paver gets damaged.
-If installed correctly, many manufacturers state that interlocking pavers are frost proof.

Cons -When installing, it needs a permanent border or frame to counteract shifting.
-Concrete pavers will look industrial or commercial, which isn't just a negative thing when your home and yard are modern.

Wood

Decks made out of wood look quite attractive close to an in-ground pool area or spa.

Pros -Depending in your budget, there are many wood varieties available.
-The design choices wide open, with lots of patterns and possible.
-Because wood can be a natural material, it'll look ... natural.

Cons -Because of the company's proximity to some body of water, maintenance is particularly important. -Wood decks in almost any location require seasonal maintenance, including cleaning, sanding, and sealing.
- You don't ever like it to get towards the point where it can be splintering; is it possible to imagine looking at the edge from the pool and having splinters with your thighs? Ouch!

Stone

Stone is really a natural looking material for patios and paths, has enough texture making it slip-resistant, and enhances landscaping and architectural features. Many types can be purchased, and pricing is often dependant upon what's offered within your region; stones from local quarries costs less than those shipped from in the united states. Flat stones bring paving purposes; called flagstone that may be usually crafted from: - Quartzite
- Sandstone
- Limestone
- Granite
- Porphyry

Pros - Available in a variety of shapes and sizes: square, rectangle, triangle, and irregular.

Cons - Darker colors or shades becomes hotter than lighter ones.
- Can be expensive if you choose a flagstone that may be not readily available inside your area.
- Inexpensive stone may be faux stone, that may look cheap or fake.

Tile

A highly glazed tile surface that gets wet could make a dangerous scenario for everyone who walks near to the pool. Since tile is graded for slip resistance, take it easy and look for something such as unglazed terracotta (saltillo), or vitreous and water-impervious porcelain tile which will withstand frosts and freezes.

Pros - Can produce a seamless indoor-to-outdoor transition when the same tile can be used.

Cons - Tile is usually slippery, particularly if wet. Choose something that has a "tooth" that could prevent you from sliding and offers better traction than smooth-as-glass marble or granite.

Mixed Materials

Examples: adding tile mosaic medallions that might be inserted in a paved concrete area while it's being poured or laid; river rock or pebbles placed in a narrow groove close to another material, like concrete.

Pros - If that suits you variety or can't restrict your choices, combining some will give you the opportunity to use both.

Cons - The look might get too busy or surfaces could be uneven. Less, in spite of mixed materials, might be more.

Artificial Turf

If you like the look of a freshly manicured lawn but reside in a region impacted by drought, synthetic grass might be the best material on your poolside deck.

Pros - Because it isn't real as well as doesn't grow, there is not any mowing involved. - It also never gets brown or dry looking, unlike real grass.

Cons - Some synthetics could possibly get hot to the touch, in particular when exposed to full sun.
- Unlike real grass, fake turf will not be biodegradable. And it still must be cleaned if this gets stained from dripping popsicles or dog poop.
- The padding of some artificial turf is created from recycled rubber tires, plus the fake grass is often crafted from a petroleum-based product. Check the "ingredients" employed to create that fake grass.

Synthetic Decking

Synthetic or composite decking is usually a popular replacement for wood, devoid of the maintenance and weathering issues.

Pros - Synthetics are durable and may last a long time.
- Made to be immune to insects and harsh climate.

Cons - Some brands can be slippery and aren't immune to mold and mildew.

I ordered this Ebern Designs Towonda Square Wall Mirror and I originally wanted to purchase this in gray but since they were out of it, I selected the blue. I love the color of this and I'd call it a teal blue. I think it was a better choice in the long run because the pop of color really livened up my space. I live in a small apartment and I needed somewhere for the grandkids to sleep when they are here. They both fit on this futon really well and they love sleeping on it. It took just a few minutes to set it up and it was easy to do. When they spend the night, I lay the cushions down and put on a fitted sheet. I then make it up like I would a regular bed. The legs and sides are zipped into a pouch in the back of the cushions making the shipping container smaller and I think it's a smart move on the company's part. I'm super happy with my purchase. I got great price. I knew exactly what to expect as far as shipping went, so I waited the allotted time, which was about 4.5 weeks. No big deal. I like my furniture comfortable, yet firm and this fits the bill perfectly! Thank you, Wayfair team, for the excellent customer service and great products.
