How to go with a mirror

There's a great consider when picking out amirror, shape, size and matterials. But the brain tasks are worth doing. Not only do mirrors reflect light to decorate you room, They also produce the illusoin of mirror space.

Mirror types

Wall mirrors can be hung, and are available in lots of size and shapes suited to all the rooms.

Leaner/ freestanding mirrors won't need to be wall-mounted, and so are usually full-length.

Full-length mirrors/ dressing mirrors are long and narrow, as they're built to give you a full-length reflection.

Tabletop mirrors are made to sit on tabletops and surfaces.

Vanity mirrors are smaller tabletop mirrors; they reflect your face and shoulders only. Perfect when applying makeup or skincare. Vanity mirrors look good on top of dressing tables and desks, or can also be stored with your bathroom cabinet if space allows.

Should I get a wall or floor mirror?

The main factor when deciding from a wall or floor mirror is space the amount of it are you experiencing? And the amount of it would you use? Floor mirrors have a very bigger footprint, so can be better for bigger rooms. Wall mirrors work efficiently in rooms of all shapes and forms, but because they are mounted and do not take up any space on the floor, they're ideal should you be lacking size.

What shape mirror should I get?

There are infinite possibilities on the subject of mirror shapes. But they may be placed into three broad categories: round, square and abstract.

Both round and square mirrors tend to be functional, and look wonderful in hallways, rooms and bedrooms.

Abstract mirrors are generally decorative, as well as their shapes include teardrop, geometric and triangular.

If your main goal is to add softness to angular rooms, we'd suggest a round mirror. They are very effective with all decor styles and, with respect to the size you end up picking, they're able to work as a functional or decorative piece a terrific all-rounder (sorry).

should I get?

A good guideline (or eye) is always to choose an image that's a couple of thirds in the size with the furniture it's hanging above. Use a paper template that will help you map out its position if you are not sure how big a will suit your space your room's colour and sunlight levels will have a part too. And while most mirrors appear in various sizes, the most typical by type are listed below.

Common mirror sizes by type:

- Round wall mirror (small): 50cm diameter
- Round wall mirror (medium): 80cm diameter
- Wall mirror (small): 50 x 80cm
- Wall mirror (medium): 60 x 80cm
- Wall mirror (large): 70 x 100cm
- Dress mirror: 30 x 120cm
- Full length dress mirror: 40 x 140cm
- Leaner mirror (large): 80 x 180cm

Mirror types for all the rooms

Hallway

As well as creating a small or narrow hallway look bigger, one by your door is great for very last minute appearance checks prior to heading out. A rectangular mirror will provide you with a fuller picture, while emphasising your room's best proportions.

Living room

Living room mirrors are largely decorative, meant to add impact for a space. Wall mirrors work nicely, leaving you floor area for functional furnishings. Choose a shape that echoes the lines from the furniture it's going above. For example, large, rectangular mirrors above fireplaces create a bold statement, while smaller mirrors can be employed as part of a gallery wall.

Bedroom

Our waking hours inside the bedroom are mainly spent getting dressed or undressed. So the obvious choices a dress mirror, a full-length mirror or perhaps a leaner mirror. And because they've created rooms look bigger and brighter, your selection can increase your room's look, plus your own.

Bathroom

Function's more useful than form from the bathroom. A mirror with storage is a terrific way to hide cosmetics whilst your bathroom tidy, while one with lights is likely to make getting ready a fantasy particularly in bathrooms that lack daylight.

Mirror frame materials and styles

Most mirrors employ a frame oahu is the finishing touch that defines the decor style they can fit into. The style of frame and material you ultimately choose will impact other activities too, like cost and weight. The most common frame materials are wood, glass and metal, which each are available in various colours and finishes glossy, matte, etc. So, set your sights for the material when you focus around the finish.

Wood framed mirrors work effectively with plenty of design styles. To achieve a Scandinavian look, choose light wood in colour and weight. Plywood is natural and airy, so creates maximum hygge vibes. Solid oak, especially with a dark stain, is ideal in more traditional interiors.

Glass framed mirrors tend to be more contemporary, particularly if made from tinted glass in shades of smoke or chocolate.

Metal framed mirrors will add industrial design appeal, and are also a good option being a decorative piece, on account of their eye-catching finish. Options include brass, copper and black.

Mirror placement and hanging tips

If you're selecting a mirror to fill a unique gap, you'll have good idea of that placement already. Hanging your mirror above furniture, included in a gallery wall, maybe in the centre of empty walls will it packs a punch. But for the biggest impact, apply it to maximise daylight. Arrange mirrors opposite the other, or near a window to amplify the consequence.

How to hang a wall mirror

Hanging mirrors needs a bit of planning and patience, however it's worth it when you skip a pace, the ideal mirror could possibly be destined for disaster. Before you start, check you have the right screws and wall fixings to your mirror weight and wall type:

- Double picture hook. Maximum load = 5kg, for wood and plasterboard
- Plasterboard fastening. Maximum load = 15kg, for plasterboard
- Screw and rawl plug. Maximum load = 20kg, for brick
- Hanging hook. Maximum load = 40kg, for brick and wood

Plaster or drywall isn't sufficiently strong to support much wall mirror, so be sure any screws or hooks are gone wooden support beams behind the plaster.

Got a freestanding mirror that doesn‘t need hanging? Make sure the two wall as well as the floor are totally flat.

How to hang your mirror, step-by-step

- Mirrors perform most optimally when their centre is in eye level, that is usually 150cm on the ground. Or, should you're putting your mirror above furniture, leave no less than 15-20cm between your bottom in the mirror along with the top of your piece
- Use a pipe and live wire detector to test there are no wires, pipes or studs in your chosen spot
- Measure the place you want your mirror to look, making certain there's enough space
- If your mirror includes a hanging wire, mark the wall within the spot the place you'll suspend it. If it doesn't, utilize a mirror bracket attach it first to your mirror, then mark the wall where each drill hole should be
- Double-check your measurements are right (better safe than sorry)
- If utilizing a drill, drill a dent into the wall, insert your rawl plug, then insert a screw most with the way into that. Repeat until your entire holes are done
- If having a hammer, hammer each nail to the wall, leaving the finish exposed
- Hang your mirror, then check it's straight (and clean)

How do I clean my mirror?

A dirty mirror can spoil your room's aesthetic together with your Instagram selfies. Follow these steps to help keep it looking positive as new:

- Grab a damp cloth. If your mirror includes a glass frame, glass cleaner's a good option too, yet it's not suitable for other mirror types
- Fold the cloth into quarters, and stick with using the whites. Move the damp quarter in zigzag motions, throughout, until you've covered every inch
- Stand back, with a 45-degree angle for the mirror, to evaluate for rogue streaks and spots check out them with the dry part of your cloth

Water may also cause damage towards the back of mirrors, advise and have kept clear of moisture. If mirrors were designed in a damp, moist environment, sealants can be bought in hardware stores to counteract damage

I was very sceptic to get Ophelia & Co. Arch Wood Wall Mirror one online, without having to be able to ensure that you feel it first, and especially because my mom must sleep on it and want her to be comfortable. The sofa arrived timely, but it is an extremely heavy and large package! I had to assemble alone. In the beginning suffered somewhat but I was able to do everything alone in about 45-60mins. It converts very easily to a bed and back to a Ophelia & Co. Arch Wood Wall Mirror A bit bigger compared to the standard sleepers and so far initial impression comfy for a sofa bed and am sure my mom will have a good sleeping!
